Sounding it out… doors!
Responding to, and appreciating music are key to the development and understanding of musical skills and children should experience this every day.
In the outdoor environment children can experience this on a large scale; they can feel free to make big noises without fear of interruption or being told to rein these in. The stimulation is all around them to make sense and sounds from the environment itself. They are exposed to both natural and man-made sounds that can be used to create and inspire music.
Music can be important for providing children with special needs with opportunities for non-verbal expression, helping them to communicate more freely. For these children, music can be a fantastic tool for expressing feelings, emotions and moods.
